Registration 2020

June 6, 2020 update: the event has been postponed until 2021. Although the dire predictions of tens of millions infections in America didn't pan out, thanks to timely lockdowns, a gradual reopening of the state of Utah has reignited the outbreaks across the state. The chances of final reopening in time for the August retreat are nil. Our view of the situation has been posted FYI.

The original registration postponement announcement was as follows:

With a heavy heart, we have to announce that we can't start registration for Mountain Milonga 2020 in early April as we promised. Miracles are possible. Perhaps new drugs, like antivirals or anti-IL-6 immune overreaction suppressors being tested right now, or even the old anti-malarial generics, may take a dent on the pandemics soon enough. More likely though, it's one of the two scenarios:

Either the spread of the infection continues unabated, and August finds this great Nation gripped by debilitating disruptions of the economy and health system ... or our attempts to slow down the pandemics and to relieve the extreme stress of the Nation's hospitals, and to win time for better interventions such as drugs and vaccines, succeed ... in which case this August finds us in the midst of draconian quarantine measures.

Then the Retreat wouldn't have a chance. Just like tango in general in these trying days.

So far we are out about 3 grand in main venue pre-payments. For the last few weeks we've been holding on requests from ski chalet owners to pay for their properties. It increasingly seems like throwing good money after the bad, unfortunately. We are distressed but not ruined and not broken in spirit. We hope against hope that we will meet again this August in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah, but we just can't send you a bill for that.
